SWISS BALL BASICS--page 2
by Caroline Corning Creager, PT

The following chart serves as a guideline in determining the appropriate ball size for sitting exercises:

Ball Sizes  Height
30 cm. ballchildren 1-2 years
45 cm. ball5'0" tall
55 cm. ball5'0" to 5'7" tall
65 cm. ball5'8" to 6'3" tall
75 cm. ball> 6' 3" tall

In the supine position, if the ball is placed under the knees, the ball height should equal the distance between the greater trochanter and the joint line of the knee. For optimal position, many clients require a ball one size smaller than the one they use for sitting. If your client is unable to find a neutral sitting position, initiate neutral spine instruction in supine.
